Nampula to Cuamba, Mozambique

Nampula, Banana's Place: Probably the worst guest house (brothel) i've ever stayed in... whole in wall behind curtain, a dent nail as a lock for the door, toilet that was comparable to the one in 'trainspotting'. dirty sheets etc and the thought that you could rent the room by the hour made my wonder what else could be on the sheets... our and a rat that ran across the ceiling... and stayed two nights cheapest place in town right by the train station.
Mr Banana himself! a smooth criminal i ever i saw one... turns out to be great guy shows me round asks for nothing, wants to improve his english to become and english teacher...

one the other end of the spectrum, hotel hilton massive! or something like that... air con units little the facade, accentuate the poor climatic design using excessive expense and energy to create sealed little modern boxes...errgh!

Nampula's greatest tourist attraction... social history exhibition downstairs... demonstrating the contrast between before and after colonial impact and industrialisation...

Typical street in Nampula concrete medium rise apartments over hang the wide shopping street, there must have been a half decent town planner here at some point... i particularly like the ornate patterns of bars on balconies as you can see.

Hitching a lift with the mute Truck driver and his son from namiola to nampula at dusk, slowly slowly as the night rolls in over rocky outcrops and red earth.
